Lasik eye surgery is a way to correct your vision problems. If you have myopia (nearsightedness) or hyperopia (farsightedness) or astigmatism such as when things appear sort of distorted or unbalanced, your doctor must have prescribed you to wear eyeglasses or contact lenses to correct your problem. If you aren’t particularly fond of wearing either, you will glad to know that there is an alternative to eyeglasses and contact lenses now and it’s called Lasik eye surgery. However, not everybody is qualified to avail himself of this type of surgical procedure. Only those above 18 years old with a healthy cornea, those who have not undergone changes in his glasses or contact lenses prescription during the past twelve month, and those who are not pregnant and or have an existing medical condition, can be allowed to take the procedure. In the event that your doctor recommends that you have the procedure, you will be subjected to a pre-operative testing in order to avoid complications during the procedure. After which, the doctor will proceed with the actual procedure. The surgeon will use a large machine to perform the procedure. He will then make a flap in the cornea with a knife and then the excimer laser to reshape the cornea. After the procedure, your surgeon will put an eye patch to protect your cornea. The whole procedure actually just takes minutes to complete and many patients are able to return to work after only a couple of days, but it may take a couple of more weeks before they can perform their regular activities with the same level of intensity as before. For many people, the Lasik eye surgery is the best choice if you want to have a 20/20 vision, but then, it is important that you know and understand this piece of information before you submit yourself to this surgical procedure.
